Yesterday, I got a wild hair to try something new in the kitchen. I’ve been seeing “salmon crudo” all over my foodie feeds, and it looked so darn good, I had to give it a shot. Plus, I had some fresh salmon in the fridge just begging to be used.

First things first, I gathered all my ingredients. I mean, you can’t start cooking without knowing what you need, right? So, I grabbed that beautiful piece of salmon, some lemons, olive oil, red onion, capers, and fresh dill. Oh, and salt and pepper, of course.

Then came the prep work. I sliced the salmon as thinly as I could. Let me tell you, this was the trickiest part. It wasn’t perfect, but hey, it was my first time! Next, I finely diced the red onion, rinsed the capers, and chopped up the dill. I squeezed a couple of lemons – got to get that fresh juice!

Now for the fun part: assembly! I laid out the salmon slices on a plate. They weren’t perfectly uniform, but they still looked pretty good. I drizzled a generous amount of olive oil all over, followed by a good squeeze of lemon juice. Then I sprinkled the red onion, capers, and dill over the salmon. It was starting to look like something you’d see in a restaurant. Finally, I seasoned everything with salt and pepper.

I covered the plate with plastic wrap and popped it in the fridge for about 30 minutes. Just to let all those flavors get to know each other, you know?

  • Taste Test Time: When I finally took it out and tried it. It was seriously amazing. The salmon was so fresh and delicate. The lemon juice and olive oil added this brightness and richness. The red onion and capers gave it a little salty, tangy kick. And the dill, oh man, the dill just tied everything together with its fresh, herby flavor.

My Takeaway

It was way easier than I thought it would be. I’m definitely making this again. Maybe next time I’ll try it with some avocado or different herbs. The possibilities are endless!

I think every foodie can do this at home! Don’t be afraid. Just do it!
