Okay, so I’ve been seeing these tequila lemon drops all over my TikTok, and I had to try making them myself. I’m a big fan of anything lemon-y, and, well, tequila… so it seemed like a match made in heaven. Here’s how my little experiment went down.
Gathering My Supplies
First, I grabbed all the stuff I needed. Honestly, it wasn’t much, which is always a bonus. Here is my list:
- Lemons (obviously)
- Sugar (for the rim and the drink)
- Tequila (I used a mid-range blanco, nothing too fancy)
- Ice
- A shaker (or a mason jar with a lid, which is what I used)
- Shot glasses
The Prep Work
I started by juicing a couple of lemons. I wanted enough juice for a few drinks, just in case the first one was a disaster (spoiler: it wasn’t!). I probably ended up with about half a cup of fresh lemon juice. Then, I took another lemon and cut it into wedges. These are for the sugared rims later.

Next, I got the sugar ready. I just poured some regular granulated sugar onto a small plate. Nothing complicated there.
Mixing Time!
This is where the magic happens. I took my trusty mason jar (because I’m fancy like that) and added a handful of ice. Then, I poured in about 2 ounces of tequila. I’m not gonna lie, I eyeballed it a bit. Next, I added about 1.5 ounces of the fresh lemon juice, and then about a tablespoon of sugar. I like things a little tart, so you might want to add more sugar if you have a sweet tooth.
I screwed the lid on tight (very important!) and shook the whole thing like crazy for about 30 seconds. I wanted it to be nice and cold, and a little frothy.
The Finishing Touch
I took one of the lemon wedges and ran it around the rim of my shot glasses. Then, I dipped the rims into the sugar on the plate, giving them a nice, sweet coating. I carefully poured a shot of lemon tequila mixture. Looked so nice!
The Taste Test
Okay, drumroll please… it was GOOD! Seriously good. The tartness of the lemon, the sweetness of the sugar, and the kick of the tequila all worked perfectly together. It was like a grown-up lemonade, but way more fun. I made a few more, and they were all equally delicious.
So, yeah, I’d definitely recommend giving this a try. It’s super easy, and it’s a perfect drink for a hot day, a party, or just because you feel like it. Cheers!
