Okay, here’s my attempt at recreating that Taco Bell Avocado Ranch sauce, told in a casual, personal blog style:
So, I’ve been obsessed with Taco Bell’s Avocado Ranch sauce lately. Like, seriously, I could put that stuff on everything. But constantly running to Taco Bell gets old (and expensive!), so I figured, “Why not try to make it myself?”
Operation: DIY Avocado Ranch
First, I did a little digging online, just to get a general idea of what goes into this magical sauce. I found a few different recipes, so it wasn’t like I was starting completely from scratch.

I grabbed my ingredients. Here’s what I ended up using:
- 1 ripe avocado (duh!)
- About 1/2 cup of buttermilk
- 1/2 cup of sour cream
- A packet of dry ranch seasoning mix
- A little bit of lime juice (maybe a teaspoon?)
- A pinch of garlic powder
- A pinch of onion powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste I guess.
I started by mashing up the avocado in a bowl. I wanted it pretty smooth, so no big chunks.
Then, I added the buttermilk and sour cream. I mixed everything together until I got it to a thickness I was pretty happy with. Make sure you do this step before adding the dry ingredients, so it does not clump.
Next, I dumped in the ranch seasoning packet. I also added the lime juice, garlic powder, onion powder, and a little salt and pepper. I’m not big on measuring, so I mostly just eyeballed it. I love to just add a little, taste, then add a little more.
I stirred everything really well to make sure the seasoning was all mixed in.
I did a little taste test. Needed a bit more lime, so I squeezed in a tiny bit more. Then…bam! It was pretty darn close!
I put some on a quick quesadilla I made, just to test it out properly. Yeah, it’s definitely a winner. It’s not exactly like Taco Bell’s, but it’s super close, and honestly, I might even like it better because I made it, ya know?
So, there you have it! My adventure in making my own Taco Bell Avocado Ranch. It was way easier than I thought, and now I can have it whenever I want. Which, let’s be real, is probably going to be very often.
