Alright, so I’m gonna talk about turkey gizzards today. You know, those little things you find inside a turkey.
First off, I had to find these gizzards. Usually, they come in a little package tucked inside the turkey’s main body part or sometimes up near where the wings are. I opened up my turkey and, sure enough, there it was. I put that package in the fridge along with the neck. I knew I’d cook them separately later.
I also learned that these gizzards have a fancy name, “ventriculus,” but who calls them that? Everyone I know just says “gizzard.”

Now, if you’re like me and didn’t get a turkey with the gizzards inside or if you just want more, you gotta go find some. I did some looking around, checked a few grocery stores. I figured they’d be in the poultry section, you know, near the chicken and stuff.
- Local Grocery Stores: I started with the smaller shops around my place. Figured they might have them.
- Big Chains: Then I hit up the big ones like Walmart. They usually have everything.
- Jewel-Osco: I even tried Jewel-Osco. They have a meat and seafood section. I thought maybe, just maybe, they’d have some gizzards.
Where I looked:
Honestly, finding them depends on where you live. Sometimes they have them, sometimes they don’t. I even looked online, thinking I could order some. There are places where you can order online and pick them up or have them delivered.
I saw something about Instacart. You can get them delivered real quick, like in an hour. That’s pretty cool if you need them fast. And it looks like Amazon might have some too, but I didn’t really check that out.
So, yeah, I called up a few stores, asked around the meat departments. Turns out, it’s kind of a seasonal thing. Not every place has them all the time.
That’s my little adventure with turkey gizzards. Found the ones in my turkey, did some digging on where to buy more. It was more work than I expected, but hey, that’s how it goes sometimes.
