Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about them camera square format vintage cloak things. I don’t know much about all these fancy words, but I seen a few of them old cameras in my time. They look like little boxes, ain’t they?
Them square pictures, they’re somethin’ special. Not like these long skinny ones everyone takes now. These here square ones, they feel…balanced, ya know? Like everything’s just right. I heard some fellers sayin’ somethin’ ’bout “one-to-one aspect ratio”. Sounds like a bunch of hogwash to me, but them pictures do look nice and even.
I remember seein’ pictures from a long time ago, black and white they was. Them fancy photographers, they used cameras that made square pictures. Heard tell of some names… David somethin’ or other, and Richard, and another feller, Terrence. They made them square pictures look real good, like somethin’ outta a magazine.
- Them old cameras, they were big and clunky.
- Not like these little ones you can stick in your pocket.
- But them old cameras, they took pictures that lasted.
Now, they say there was a reason them old cameras made square pictures. Somethin’ to do with the way they was built, somethin’ they called “medium format”. Said it was hard to turn the camera, so they just made the picture square. Makes sense, I guess. Why make things harder than they gotta be?
These days, everyone’s got them rectangle pictures. Long ones, short ones, all sorts. But I tell ya, there’s somethin’ about a square picture that just catches your eye. It’s like your eye goes round and round, lookin’ at everything. Not like them rectangle ones where your eye just goes side to side, or up and down.
I heard some young folks sayin’ that takin’ square pictures helps you learn how to make a good picture. Said it makes you think harder about what you’re lookin’ at. Maybe so, maybe so. I always just pointed the camera and clicked. But then again, I ain’t no fancy photographer.
Them old cameras, they had this cloth thing, a dark cloth they called it, you’d throw over your head to see the picture better. Looked kinda silly, but I guess it worked. These new cameras, they got all them buttons and screens. Too much for an old woman like me.
Some company, Hassel somethin’, they made them square picture cameras for a long time. Tried to tell everyone square pictures was the best. Then they went and made one of them automatic cameras, just like everyone else. Guess they couldn’t fight the tide, huh? But them old square picture cameras, they’re still around. You can find ’em in antique stores and such.
If you’re havin’ trouble makin’ a good picture with them rectangle things, maybe try a square one. Might just be what you need. It’s like… it simplifies things, ya know? You ain’t gotta worry about which way to hold the camera, just point and shoot.
And let me tell ya, them old cameras, they weren’t just for takin’ pictures of folks standin’ still. I seen pictures of people dancin’, runnin’, laughin’… All in that square format. It’s like… it captures the moment, freezes it in time. And that square shape, it just holds everything together, makes it feel complete.
So, if you ever see one of them old square format cameras, don’t just pass it by. Pick it up, take a look. You might just find yourself fallin’ in love with the way things used to be. Them vintage cameras and the square cloak…they got a charm all their own. And them square pictures, they’re somethin’ special, somethin’ you don’t see much of these days. They remind you of a simpler time, a time when things weren’t so rushed, so complicated. A time when a picture was just a picture, and it didn’t need a bunch of fancy filters or edits to make it look good.
Anyways, that’s just my two cents. I ain’t no expert, just an old woman who’s seen a thing or two. But I know what I like, and I like them square pictures. They got a certain somethin’… a certain somethin’ special.
