Okay, so I’ve been on this focaccia bread kick lately. It’s just so good, you know? But sometimes, I get tired of eating it plain. So, I started experimenting with different things to eat with it. Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
The Dipping Experiments
First, I went with the classics. I mean, you can’t go wrong with good old olive oil and balsamic vinegar, right?
- I poured some extra virgin olive oil into a small dish.
- Then, I added a splash of balsamic vinegar.
- I also sprinkled in some dried herbs – oregano, basil, a little rosemary. Whatever I had on hand, really.
It was simple, but delicious. The focaccia soaked up the oil and vinegar perfectly.

Next, I tried some different dips:
- Hummus: Always a good choice. I used store-bought hummus, but homemade would be even better.
- White bean dip: I whipped this up myself. Just blended some canned cannellini beans with garlic, lemon juice, and olive oil. Super easy.
- Roasted red pepper dip: This one was a bit more effort, but worth it. I roasted some red peppers in the oven, then blended them with some feta cheese, garlic, and a little bit of chili flakes for a kick.
The Topping Trials
Then I moved on to toppings. I figured, focaccia is basically a blank canvas, so why not?
- Fresh tomatoes and basil: Classic and refreshing. I just sliced some tomatoes, chopped some basil, and arranged them on top of the focaccia. A drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of salt and pepper, and it was perfect.
- Caramelized onions and goat cheese: This one was a bit more decadent. I caramelized some onions slowly on the stovetop, then crumbled some goat cheese over the top. The sweetness of the onions and the tanginess of the goat cheese were amazing together.
- Prosciutto and fig jam: Sweet and salty, my favorite! I spread some fig jam on the focaccia, then layered some thinly sliced prosciutto on top.
Sandwich Sensations
The Focaccia is perfect and great as a base for a sandwich. I had some trys:
- Roasted Vegetables: Grilled zucchini, bell peppers, eggplant.
- Mozzarella and Pesto: A classic combination.
The Verdict
Honestly, everything tasted pretty good. I think my favorite was the roasted red pepper dip, but the caramelized onions and goat cheese were a close second. It all depends on my mood, really. The thing is, focaccia is so versatile, you can pretty much put anything on it, and it’ll be delicious. I’m already planning my next focaccia experiment!
