Okay, so my friend Sarah is expecting, and we decided to throw her a mermaid-themed baby shower. It was so much fun to plan and even more fun to execute!

Getting Started: Brainstorming & Planning

First, we brainstormed. We wanted everything to scream “under the sea” without being, you know, too cheesy. Pinterest was our best friend, obviously. We pinned a bunch of ideas – color schemes, decorations, food, games… everything!

We decided on a color palette of teal, lavender, and touches of gold. It felt magical and ocean-y, without being too babyish.

The DIY Decorations

Then came the fun part – making the decorations! We hit up the craft store and loaded up on supplies. We:

  • Made paper jellyfish lanterns. Super easy, just paper lanterns, some ribbon, and googly eyes!
  • Created a “seaweed” curtain using strips of green and blue fabric. We just tied them to a long piece of string.
  • Gathered seashells and starfish (fake ones, of course!) and scattered them around the tables.
  • Painted some mason jars with the chose colors, and add some cute little mermaid stickers.

We also printed out some cute mermaid-themed signs and framed them. Little touches, but they really added to the overall vibe.

Food, Glorious Food!

The food was another big part. We wanted to keep it on-theme, but also, you know, edible. We ended up with:

  • “Ocean Water” punch – just blue Hawaiian Punch with some Sprite and pineapple juice.
  • “Seaweed” dip – spinach and artichoke dip, served with blue corn tortilla chips.
  • “Clam Shell” cookies – vanilla wafers with frosting and a pearl candy in the middle.
  • A cake decorated with edible “scales” and a mermaid tail topper.

Games and Activities

No baby shower is complete without some games! We played a few classics, like “guess the baby food” (always hilarious), but we also added a mermaid twist. We had a “pin the tail on the mermaid” game and a “design your own mermaid tail” craft station with fabric scraps and glitter glue.

The Big Day!

Finally, the day arrived! Sarah was totally surprised and loved everything. Seeing her face light up made all the planning and crafting worth it. Everyone had a blast, and the decorations looked amazing (if I do say so myself!). The food was a hit, and the games kept everyone entertained.

It was a truly magical day, and I’m so glad we were able to create such a special memory for my friend. Now, I’m just patiently waiting to meet the little mermaid herself!
