Alright, so the other day I was looking to spice things up in the kitchen, literally. I’ve been reading a lot about the benefits of different spices, and ground cloves caught my eye. I mean, I’ve used them in baking before, but I never really thought about them beyond that. Turns out, they’re pretty awesome.
First off, I grabbed a small jar of whole cloves from my spice rack. You know, the ones that look like tiny nails? Well, I didn’t have ground cloves on hand, so I decided to make my own. Out came the mortar and pestle. Honestly, it was kind of therapeutic, grinding those little buds into a fine powder. It took a bit of elbow grease, but I managed to get a decent amount of ground cloves.
- Started with whole cloves.
- Used a mortar and pestle to grind them.
- Ended up with freshly ground cloves.
Now, what to do with them? I’d read that cloves are great for digestion, so I decided to add a pinch to my morning tea. I also sprinkled some into the curry I was making for dinner. The aroma was amazing, instantly filling my kitchen with a warm, spicy scent. That evening my stomach felt good.

Experimenting further
I’ve also been experimenting with adding ground cloves to my oatmeal in the morning. It gives it a nice, subtle warmth that’s perfect for a chilly day. And because I heard it can help with weight loss by boosting metabolism, I figured, why not give it a try? Plus, they say it helps regulate blood sugar levels, which is always a good thing. I can’t say I’ve noticed a huge difference in my weight yet, but I do feel like my energy levels are a bit more stable throughout the day.
So far, I’m really enjoying incorporating ground cloves into my daily routine. It’s such a simple thing, but it really does add a lot of flavor and potential health benefits. I’m definitely going to keep using them and see what other culinary adventures I can go on with this humble spice.
