Alright, guys, so the other day I went to the grocery store, and you know how it is – you see those shiny, red pepperoni slices and you just gotta have ’em. I ended up buying way more than I needed, like always. And then it hit me, I had a ton of pepperoni and no immediate plans to use it all. So, I thought, “Can I just freeze this stuff?”
I did what anyone would do and looked it up online. Turns out, yeah, you can freeze pepperoni! But there were mixed messages. Some folks online were saying not to freeze it, others were all for it. So, I decided to experiment and see for myself. Here’s what I did.
My Pepperoni Freezing Experiment
- Getting Started: First, I grabbed the pepperoni I wanted to freeze. Now, I had both sliced pepperoni and a whole stick. My online research told me that freezing the whole stick wasn’t the best idea, so I focused on the sliced ones.
- Prepping the Slices: I took out the slices and laid them out. I didn’t want them all stuck together in the freezer, so I figured separating them would be smart.
- Wrapping it Up: Then, I grabbed some plastic wrap. I carefully wrapped small stacks of the pepperoni slices, making sure they were nice and snug. Some sources online suggested aluminum foil, but I just went with the plastic wrap I had.
- Into the Freezer: After wrapping, I put these little packets into a freezer bag, squeezed out as much air as I could, and sealed it up. Then, into the freezer they went!
The Waiting Game
I left the pepperoni in the freezer for a couple of weeks. I figured that was a good enough time to see if freezing would mess them up.

Thawing it Out
When it was time to test them out, I took a packet out of the freezer and put it in the fridge. I learned online that this was the best way to defrost them slowly.
The Results
After a few hours, the pepperoni was thawed and ready. Honestly, they looked pretty good! I used them on a homemade pizza, and guess what? They tasted just fine! No weird texture, no loss of flavor.
So, from my little experiment, I can confidently say that freezing sliced pepperoni is totally doable. It’s a great way to keep it for later without it going bad. Just make sure to wrap it well and thaw it in the fridge. Hope this helps anyone else who ends up with too much pepperoni like me!
