Today, I really wanted to try something different for breakfast. I was thinking, “What can I make with waffles?” I decided to experiment with different toppings to see what tastes best. Waffles have this crispy outside and a soft inside, and they’re a little sweet, you know?
First, I made the waffles. I just used a simple mix and added a bit of vanilla because I like that extra flavor. While the waffles were cooking, I started looking around my kitchen for topping ideas.
Savory Toppings
- I grabbed some avocados, tomatoes, and a jalapeño. I sliced them up and put them on a waffle. It looked colorful and tasted pretty good!
- Next, I found some leftover mac n cheese and BBQ sauce. I know it sounds weird, but I tried it on a waffle with some chicken. It was surprisingly tasty!
- I also had some chili and shredded cheese. I warmed up the chili and poured it over a waffle, then sprinkled cheese and some sliced jalapeños on top. This one was super filling.
- One of my favorites was chicken with maple syrup. I just cooked some chicken, put it on the waffle, and drizzled maple syrup over it. So simple and so good!
Sweet Toppings
- For a sweet option, I tried fruit. I sliced some strawberries and bananas and added a dollop of whipped cream. Classic and delicious.
- I also tried a bit of chocolate syrup and some nuts. I chopped up some almonds and sprinkled them over the waffle after drizzling the syrup. It was like a dessert!
After trying all these toppings, I realized you can put almost anything on a waffle, and it will probably taste good. The savory options were my favorite, especially the chicken and maple syrup combo. It’s fun to experiment and see what you like best. I think next time I’ll try something even crazier!
