So, I tried to cook some trout today, a small one, about 0.5 lb. First, I got this fish and gave it a good wash under some cold water. I was careful to pat it dry, checking for any tiny bones that might be hiding.

Then I took a fan to dry the fish faster. I remembered someone telling me that a fan can be really useful for drying stuff like fish before cooking, and let me tell you, it’s a game-changer. I flipped the fish a few times to make sure both sides got dried evenly. It only took about 5 to 10 minutes, which was pretty quick.

After that, I seasoned it simply with some salt and pepper. Nothing fancy, just wanted to keep the natural flavor of the trout.

Next, I preheated my air fryer. I set it to 400 degrees F, which is about 200 degrees C. While it was heating up, I took a small baking dish, about 9×13 inches, and greased it with a bit of olive oil, maybe a teaspoon or so. Then I placed my trout in there and drizzled a little more olive oil on top. It is not a very big fish so I can only use a small baking dish.

Once the air fryer was ready, I put the dish inside and cooked it for a little while. I saw online people talking about cooking trout fillets on a stove with olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, white wine, parsley, and butter, but I thought, why not try the air fryer? It’s supposed to be great for thin fillets, right?

My Cooking Details

  • Wash the trout: Use cold water, pat dry, and remove tiny bones.
  • Dry: Use a fan for 5-10 minutes, flipping to dry both sides.
  • Season: Just salt and pepper.
  • Preheat air fryer: 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Prepare dish: Grease a 9×13-inch dish with 1 teaspoon olive oil, place trout in, and coat with more olive oil.

The cooking was quick and the fish turned out pretty good. The skin was a bit crispy, and the inside was moist and flaky. Definitely a simple and tasty way to cook trout. I think next time I might try adding some of those extra flavors, like garlic and lemon, but even just like this, it was delicious.

I have some other fish in the fridge. Maybe I can try different ways to cook them tomorrow.
