Okay, so the other day I was looking at my grandpa’s cane. He’s been using the same one for years, and the rubber tip at the bottom was, well, let’s just say it had seen better days. It was all worn down and cracked, basically useless. I figured it was time to replace it, and being the handy grandson I am, I decided to take care of it myself.
I measured the bottom of the cane, the diameter of the steel tube, and it was pretty much exactly 1/2 inch. Okay, easy enough, I thought. So, I started my quest which began for “1/2 inch cane tips”.
Finding the Right Size
I grabbed a pack of 1/2 inch cane tips. It seemed like a no-brainer.

The Replacement Process
First, I removed the old, worn-out tip. It was pretty stuck on there, but with a little twisting and pulling, I finally wrestled it off. It was so brittle, it actually crumbled a bit in my hand. Gross.
Then, I tried to slip one of the new tips onto the cane. I pushed and twisted, but no matter how hard I tried, it just wouldn’t go on all the way.
I checked inside the new tips to make sure there were no obstructions. Nope, all clear.
I even warmed up the rubber tip a bit, thinking it might make it more pliable. Still no luck. I was starting to feel a little defeated.
There were a few times I thought maybe I forced too much and will break it, so I am glad I took it easy and finally make it work.
Success!
Finally, I just took it easy and use a bit of strength, I managed to wiggle it on. Perfect! My grandpa’s cane now feels a bit more stable, and he doesn’t sound like a tap-dancing skeleton when he walks.
