Okay, so I’ve been on this kick lately trying to find the perfect sides to go with chicken strips. I mean, chicken strips are a classic, right? But sometimes, the same old fries get a little boring. So, I decided to experiment in my kitchen and document the journey.

The First Attempt: Sweet Potato Fries

I started with sweet potato fries. Everyone raves about them, so I figured, why not? I peeled and sliced a couple of sweet potatoes, tossed them in some olive oil, salt, pepper, and a little paprika for a kick.

Then spread them on a baking sheet and baked them at 400F for about 20 minutes, flipping them halfway through.

  • Result: They were okay. Not bad, but not amazing either. A little soggy, to be honest.

Round Two: Classic Coleslaw

Next up, I made coleslaw, the old time favourite. I shredded some cabbage and carrots, made it real simple. For the dressing, I just mixed some mayo, a splash of vinegar, a tiny bit of sugar, salt, and pepper.

  • Result: It was…coleslaw. It’s refreshing, and the crunch is nice with the crispy chicken, so that’s a plus.

Experimenting Further: Roasted Broccoli

Feeling adventurous, I tried roasting broccoli. I tossed the broccoli florets with olive oil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Roasted them in the oven at 425F for around 15 minutes.

  • Result: I think I found a winner! The broccoli got all crispy and slightly charred, and the garlic flavor was awesome with the chicken.

The Final Touch: Mac and Cheese

I thought about the suggestion of mac and cheese. This is classic comfort food. I got a simple boxed mac and cheese and cooked it, following the instructions on the box, a little bit of milk and butter.

  • Result: Creamy, cheesy, and comforting. It’s hard to go wrong with mac and cheese, it is just a perfect side for those delicious strips.

So, after all my experimenting, I’ve got to say, the roasted broccoli and the mac and cheese were my favorite sides for the chicken strips. The coleslaw was good too, but something about the broccoli’s crispiness and the mac and cheese’s creamy texture just really worked, at least, that is what I felt.

I definitely encourage everyone to try their own combinations and try stuff. You might find something that you love even more, the taste is subjective anyway.
