Okay, so the other day I was staring into my fridge, trying to figure out what to make. I had some turkey bacon and a bunch of hot peppers that were about to go bad. I’m all about not wasting food, so I thought, “Why not combine them?” I’ve always been a fan of that sweet and spicy combo, and I figured the smoky flavor of the bacon might play well with the heat of the peppers.

My Little Experiment Begins

First, I grabbed the turkey bacon and cooked it up in a pan. I like mine a little crispy, so I let it sizzle for a bit longer than usual. While that was going, I chopped up the hot peppers. I had a mix – some jalapeños, a few serranos, and even a lone habanero that I bravely decided to include (I’m a bit of a chili-head, can’t lie!).

Once the bacon was done, I took it out of the pan and set it aside. I left a little bit of the bacon grease in there, because, flavor, duh! Then, I tossed in the chopped peppers and sautéed them until they were slightly softened and starting to brown a little.

  • The Smell: Oh man, the aroma at this point was insane! The smoky bacon-y smell mixed with the spicy, slightly sweet scent of the cooking peppers… my mouth was already watering.

Putting It All Together

I crumbled the crispy turkey bacon and added it back to the pan with the peppers. I stirred everything around to make sure it was all nicely mixed, and the bacon got coated with all that spicy, delicious goodness.

And that was it! I served it up with some scrambled eggs and toast for a super satisfying breakfast. It would be awesome in a breakfast burrito or omelet, but honestly, you will eat it straight out of the pan.
