Okay, so I was making a big batch of my grandma’s famous potato salad for a potluck, and the recipe calls for a pound of sour cream. I usually just eyeball it, but this time I wanted to be precise. So, I started wondering, “How many cups of sour cream are actually in a pound?”
First, I grabbed my phone and did a quick search. It seemed that the answer is generally around 2 cups, that seemed easy enough, but the sites show different answers, so, I was a bit confused.
To be absolutely sure, I decided to do my own experiment. Here’s what I did:
- I zeroed out my kitchen scale with an empty bowl on it.
- I spooned sour cream into the bowl until the scale read exactly one pound.
- Then, I carefully transferred the sour cream from the bowl into measuring cups, leveling each one off with a knife to get an accurate reading.
My Findings
Guess what? It turned out to be almost exactly 2 cups! Maybe a tiny bit more, like a tablespoon or two, but for all practical purposes, 2 cups is the way to go.
So, there you have it! From my own little kitchen test, one pound of sour cream is pretty much equal to two cups. Now I can make my potato salad with confidence, and you can too!
