Okay, so today I tried making peach cobbler with a cake mix. I know, it sounds a bit odd, but trust me on this one. I saw this idea floating around and figured, why not give it a shot? It’s supposed to be super simple, and who doesn’t love a shortcut in the kitchen, right?
First off, I grabbed a box of yellow cake mix from the pantry. Then, I went and got a couple of cans of peaches in heavy syrup – I like the ones that are already sliced because, hey, less work for me. I also made sure I had some butter, and of course, a baking dish.
I preheated the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. While that was heating up, I took the baking dish and dumped in the canned peaches, syrup and all. I spread them out evenly. I tried to make it look nice, even though it’s all gonna get mixed up later.

Next, I sprinkled the dry cake mix evenly over the peaches. Now, here’s where I messed up a bit the first time. I thought I had to mix it in or something, but nope, just sprinkle it on top. Then, I sliced up some butter and placed the slices all over the cake mix. The idea is that the butter melts and helps make this crispy, yummy topping.
I popped the dish into the oven and set a timer for about 45 minutes. I kept peeking through the oven window, watching it do its thing. The waiting was tough – it smelled so good in my kitchen!
- First, use canned peaches in heavy syrup.
- Second, don’t mix the cake, just sprinkle.
- Third, put the butter slices all over the cake mix.
Some tips that I think they are important.
Once the timer went off, I took it out. The top was all golden brown and bubbly. It looked pretty darn good, if I do say so myself. I let it cool for a bit because I didn’t want to burn my tongue. Patience is a virtue, they say.
Finally, I scooped some out and served it up. I added a dollop of vanilla ice cream on top because why not? And let me tell you, it was delicious! The cake mix made this sweet, crunchy crust, and the peaches were warm and gooey. It was like a warm hug in dessert form.
So yeah, that was my little cooking adventure for today. It was easy, it was tasty, and it was definitely something I’d make again. Maybe next time I’ll try it with different fruits. I’m thinking maybe apple or cherry? The possibilities are endless!
