Okay, so the other day I bought a big bottle of coffee syrup from the store. You know, the kind you use to make fancy lattes at home? I was super excited to use it, but then I realized I had no idea if I should stick it in the fridge after opening it or not. This is what I did.
Figuring Out the Coffee Syrup Situation
First, I checked the bottle. I mean, that’s the obvious thing to do, right? I looked all over, front and back, top and bottom. Sometimes it’s printed in tiny letters, so I really squinted. No luck. Nothing about refrigeration.
Next, I thought, “Okay, maybe it’s like ketchup.” Some people keep ketchup in the fridge, some don’t. So, it might be one of those things. But coffee syrup seemed different. It’s, well, syrup. More like maple syrup, maybe?
So, I grabbed my phone and did a quick search. I typed in something like “does coffee syrup need refrigeration” and hit enter.

And the result shows almost all coffee syrups don’t need to be refrigerated if they are just sugar, water, and flavoring.

If it has any dairy or other perishable ingredients, better to refrigerate it.
After I read a few articles, most of them said the same thing. I went back to the bottle and checked the ingredients again. Just sugar, water, natural and artificial flavors, and some preservatives. Phew!
So, I decided to leave it out on the counter. And you know what? It’s been perfectly fine! No weird mold, no funny taste. My lattes have been delicious.
In a word, it totally depends on the ingredients. Always double-check the label!
