Okay, let’s talk about this little cooking adventure I had today. I’ve been craving waffles for like, a week, and today was the day I finally made some. And not just any waffles, mind you – I went all out and made strawberry waffles.
First, I gotta say, making waffles is not as easy as it looks. I mean, it’s not rocket science, but there’s a bit of a process, you know? I dug out my old waffle iron that I got during my marriage – it was still in the box! – and dusted it off. Then I pulled up a recipe online. There are, like, a million different ones, but I picked one that seemed pretty straightforward.
I started by mixing the dry ingredients. Flour, sugar, baking powder, the usual suspects. Then I mixed the wet ingredients separately. Milk, eggs, melted butter and some secret recipe from the website. I whisked those together until they were nice and smooth. And then, the fun part – combining the wet and dry ingredients. You gotta be careful not to overmix, or your waffles will be tough. I just mixed them until everything was just combined.

- Flour, sugar, salt and some ingredients…
- Milk, eggs, butter…
- Mixing them together.
While the batter was resting, I got started on the strawberries. I washed them and sliced them up. I like to leave some bigger chunks for texture. Then I just tossed them in a bowl with a little bit of sugar to help bring out their sweetness. Some people make a fancy syrup, but I like to keep it simple.
Now, back to the waffles. I preheated the waffle iron and gave it a good spray with some non-stick cooking spray. I learned that lesson the hard way a long time ago. Then I poured about half a cup of batter onto the hot iron and closed the lid. The waiting is the hardest part! You gotta resist the urge to peek. But most waffle irons have a little light that tells you when they’re done.
When the light went off, I carefully opened the iron, and there they were – golden brown, fluffy waffles. I used a fork to gently lift them out and onto a plate.
The Best Part
Finally, time to assemble! I topped those bad boys with a generous helping of the sliced strawberries. Oh, and of course, some whipped cream and a drizzle of syrup. I know, I know, it’s a bit indulgent, but hey, treat yourself, right?
And let me tell you, those waffles were delicious. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and the strawberries added the perfect touch of sweetness and freshness. It was the perfect breakfast…or brunch…or let’s be honest, even dinner. I ate them at 3 PM, so maybe it is my lunch, right?
So yeah, that was my waffle-making adventure. It was definitely worth the effort, and I think I’ll be making them again soon. Maybe next time I’ll try adding some chocolate chips to the batter. Or maybe some blueberries. Oh, the possibilities!
