Okay, so I’ve been wanting to try a new twist on the classic green bean casserole, and I thought, “Why not combine it with cream of celery soup?” I mean, I love both, so it seemed like a solid plan. I’m calling it “Cream of Celery Soup Green Bean Casserole,” and I just whipped it up today. Here’s how it went down:
Getting Started
First, I grabbed my ingredients. Pretty basic stuff, really:
- Canned green beans (I used two big cans, the cut kind)
- Cream of celery soup (one family-size can)
- Milk (just a splash, maybe 1/4 cup?)
- Soy sauce (a dash or two, for a little extra flavor)
- Black pepper (to taste, of course)
- French fried onions (gotta have those crispy toppings!)
Mixing it Up
I started by draining the green beans. I don’t like them too watery, so I pressed them down a bit with a spoon to get the extra liquid out. Then, I dumped them into a big mixing bowl.

Next, I scooped in the cream of celery soup. It was pretty thick, so I added a splash of milk to thin it out a little. I just eyeballed it, really. I wanted the mixture to be creamy, not runny.
Then came the soy sauce and pepper. Again, just a little of each. I didn’t want to overpower the other flavors. I gave everything a good stir until it was all nicely combined.
Baking Time
I poured the mixture into a greased casserole dish. It looked pretty good already, if I do say so myself.
I sprinkled a generous layer of french fried onions on top. I mean, you can’t have green bean casserole without them, right? It’s like the law or something.
Then, into the oven it went! I baked it at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 25 minutes. I just kept an eye on it until the onions were golden brown and the casserole was bubbly around the edges.
The Taste Test
Oh man, it smelled amazing when I took it out of the oven. I let it cool for a few minutes (hardest part, honestly), then scooped out a big serving.
It was good! Really good. The cream of celery soup added a nice, subtle flavor that went really well with the green beans. And, of course, the crispy onions were the perfect finishing touch.
Overall, I’d say it was a success! It was easy to make, tasted great, and was a nice change from the usual green bean casserole. I’ll definitely be making this again.
