Okay, so I’ve been trying to eat a bit healthier lately, and that includes cutting out gluten. But man, I really missed those dino nuggets. You know, the ones shaped like little dinosaurs? They’re just so fun to eat, even for a grown-up like me. So, I got this idea to try and make my own gluten-free version. Let me tell you, it was an adventure.
First, I went to the grocery store and looked for some gluten-free breadcrumbs. Found some! Then, I grabbed some chicken breast, because that’s what I had on hand, and the other stuff, like eggs and spices. I was ready to get cooking.
Getting Started
- Chopped up the chicken into small pieces, like the size of regular nuggets.
- Set up my “breading station”: one bowl with a beaten egg, another with the gluten-free breadcrumbs mixed with some garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Simple stuff, really.
Then came the fun part – shaping the nuggets! I tried to make them look like dinosaurs, but honestly, they just ended up looking like weird blobs. But hey, who cares, right? It’s the taste that matters. I dipped each chicken piece in the egg, then rolled them in the breadcrumbs until they were fully coated.

Now, I didn’t want to deep-fry them because, you know, healthy-ish. So I decided to use my air fryer. This thing is a lifesaver, by the way. I spritzed some oil in the basket, arranged the nuggets in a single layer, and spritzed them with a bit more oil. Then, I popped them in the air fryer at 400 degrees for about 8-10 minutes, flipping them halfway through.
The Result
When they were done, they looked pretty good! Golden brown and crispy. I was excited. I grabbed some of my favorite gluten-free dipping sauce, and took a bite. Not bad! They weren’t exactly like the store-bought ones, but they were tasty and satisfied my craving. Plus, I knew exactly what was in them, which made me feel good.
So, if you’re looking for a gluten-free alternative to dino nuggets, I’d say give it a try! It’s a bit of work, especially if you’re like me and can’t shape dough to save your life, but it’s worth it. And hey, even if your nuggets look like aliens instead of dinosaurs, they’ll still be delicious. Just don’t overcrowd the air fryer – you want them to be crispy, not soggy. It’s all about trial and error, you know? Just have fun with it!
All in all, I consider this a successful experiment. Home-made gluten-free dino-shaped chicken nuggets, done. And they were actually pretty darn tasty!
