Okay, so I saw this title, “show me free soft black licorice,” and I was like, what? Is this some kind of code? A challenge? I had to find out.
The Hunt Begins
I started by, you know, just putting it into a search . I mean, why not? Maybe someone was giving away free candy. Wishful thinking, I know.
The results were…not what I expected. Nothing about actual free licorice. Lots of online stores selling it, of course. But nothing free.

Digging Deeper
So, I tried a few different , adding words like “recipe” or “DIY.” My thinking was, maybe I could find a way to make some soft black licorice. That would technically be free, right? If you ignore the cost of ingredients, haha.
I found a bunch of recipes! Some looked super complicated, with weird ingredients I’d never heard of. Others seemed a bit easier. I bookmarked a couple that used things like molasses and anise extract.
The Experiment
I decided to try one of the simpler recipes. I already had most of the stuff in my pantry, except for the anise. A quick trip to the store later, and I was ready to go.
Mixing everything together was easy enough. The hard part was getting the right consistency. The recipe said to cook it until it reached a certain temperature, but I don’t have a candy thermometer. So, I just kind of…winged it.
The Result
Honestly, it was a bit of a mess. My “soft” licorice turned out pretty hard. And the flavor? Let’s just say it was…intense. Too much anise, maybe? I don’t know.
- First Attempt: Rock hard and super strong flavor.
- Lesson learned: Maybe a candy thermometer is important.
But hey I made something and I did it. I even tried it a couple of times with slight adjustments, still not what I can describe as ‘good’ but getting better.
