Okay, so I’ve been on this huge kettle corn kick lately. It’s, like, the perfect mix of sweet and salty, you know? But sometimes, I get bored with the plain stuff. So, I decided to go on a little flavor adventure and see what else I could throw into the mix. I grabbed my big pot, some kernels, oil, and sugar, and got to work.
My Kettle Corn Flavor Experiment
First, I made a basic batch of kettle corn. You know the drill: heat up the oil, toss in the kernels, and once they start popping, add the sugar. Gotta stir it constantly so it doesn’t burn. That’s the base for everything.
The Sweet Stuff:

- Cinnamon Sugar: This was a no-brainer. I just mixed some cinnamon and sugar together and sprinkled it on the hot, freshly made kettle corn. Classic!
- Cocoa Powder: Ok, this one was a bit trickier. I added the cocoa powder with the sugar at the beginning. it gave a slightly chocolatey flavor, It wasn’t super strong.
- Powdered Sugar: After it was done gave a little bit dust made it sweeter.
The Savory/Spicy Stuff:
- Salt: Of course, a good amount of salt is must.
- Nutritional Yeast: I know, it sounds weird. But I sprinkled some nutritional yeast on a batch, and it gave it this cheesy, savory flavor. Kinda like those cheese popcorns, but not as intense.
- Chili Powder: For a kick, I added a little bit of chili powder with the sugar. It was a nice sweet and spicy combo. Next time, I might add a pinch of cayenne pepper, too.
The Verdict:
Honestly, they were all pretty good! The cinnamon sugar was my favorite for a sweet treat. The nutritional yeast was surprisingly awesome, and the chili powder one was great when I wanted something a little different. I even thought about trying some other spices next time, like maybe garlic powder or onion powder. I think I get new ideas to make more flavors.
