Okay, so I saw this “show me free black licorice” thing going around, and I figured, why not? I’m always up for a challenge, and who doesn’t love free stuff, especially candy?
I started my quest, my journey,by hitting up Google. I mean, that’s where you go for everything, right? I typed in “free black licorice samples” and, well, a bunch of stuff popped up. Some were those survey sites that promise you the world and usually give you nothing, so I steered clear of those.
Then, I moved onto forums.I scrolled through a few threads on some candy-lover forums and deal-hunting sites. People were talking about emailing companies directly, asking for samples. Seemed a little forward, but hey, desperate times!

My strategy
I made a list of all the big licorice makers I could think of. I’m talking the old-school brands, the ones my grandma always had in her candy dish. I figured they might be more open to sending out a little something-something.
- First step: Find their contact info. Most had a “Contact Us” page on their website. Easy peasy.
- Second step: Craft a nice little email. I didn’t want to sound like a beggar, so I kept it light and friendly. Told them I was a huge fan of black licorice (which is kinda true, I don’t hate it!) and was wondering if they ever sent out samples.
- Third: kept my fingers crossed.
To make sure the email can send out correctly, I tested it several times.
I sent out maybe five or six emails. Honestly, I didn’t expect much. A few days went by, and… nothing. My inbox was a ghost town. I was about to give up, chalk it up to another internet fail.
But then, boom! One company, I can’t sure the brand name here, but let’s just call them “Old-Fashioned Sweets” , emailed me back! They said they’d be happy to send me a small sample pack. Woohoo!
About a week later, a little package arrived. Inside were a few pieces of their classic black licorice. It wasn’t a ton, but hey, it was free! And it tasted pretty good, too. That old-fashioned, slightly bitter, kinda molasses-y flavor.
So, that’s my free black licorice adventure. It took a little bit of work, a few emails, and a whole lot of patience. But in the end, I got my free candy. Would I do it again? Maybe. It was more about the challenge than the actual licorice, to be honest. But it was fun, and now it is my turn to show you all!
