Okay, so today I tried to make a dish with yellowtail. I’ve seen it on menus before, but never really knew what to do with it at home. So, I decided to just go for it and see what happened.

Getting Started

First, I got a yellowtail fillet from the store. It looked pretty fresh, which is always a good start. I rinsed it under cold water and patted it dry with some paper towels.

The Marinade

I wanted something simple, but flavorful. I mixed together some stuff I had in the pantry:

  • Soy sauce (the low-sodium kind)
  • Some honey (because, why not?)
  • A little bit of rice vinegar
  • Minced garlic (a lot, I love garlic)
  • Grated ginger.
  • Sesame Oil

I whisked all of that together in a bowl and put the yellowtail fillet in a shallow dish. Then, I poured the marinade all over it, making sure the fish was nicely coated.I try to use my hand to make it even.

I covered the dish with plastic wrap and stuck it in the fridge.I let it sit in the fridge with the marinade on for, like, 30 minutes.I am not sure how long is better.

Cooking Time

I heated up some oil in a pan over medium-high heat.I took the yellowtail out of the marinade and placed it in the hot pan. I cooked it for about 3-4 minutes on each *’s not very long I * looked nicely browned and cooked through.I am a little bit afraid of the fish not being cooked through so I cooked a little bit longer.

Serving Up

I served the yellowtail with some steamed rice and some quick-pickled cucumbers I whipped up while the fish was marinating.I put the yellowtail on the rice, and ready to eat!

It actually turned out pretty good! The fish was flaky and the marinade gave it a nice sweet and savory flavor. Definitely something I’ll try making again, maybe with a few tweaks next time.
