Okay, so, I’ve been seeing these “watermelon moonshine” recipes floating around the internet, and I got curious. I mean, who wouldn’t be? Watermelon and moonshine? Sounds like a party waiting to happen. So, I decided to give it a shot myself, using Everclear, ’cause why not go big, right? And let me tell you, it was quite the adventure.
First things first, I gathered my supplies. Obviously, I needed a big ol’ watermelon. I picked one up from the local store, a really juicy one. Then, I got my hands on a bottle of Everclear. It is pretty strong stuff, so be careful if you ever try this yourself. I also got some sugar because, you know, everything’s better with a little sweetness.
Now, the fun part. I started by cutting a hole in the top of the watermelon, like I was carving a pumpkin. It is not as easy as it looks, watermelons are pretty tough. Once I had a decent-sized hole, I used a spoon and my hands to scoop out some of the watermelon flesh. I did not throw it away though! I put it in a bowl because I planned to eat it later.
- Cut a hole in the watermelon.
- Scoop out some watermelon.
- Mix Everclear and sugar.
- Pour mixture into the watermelon.
- Wait…
Then, I mixed the Everclear with some sugar in a separate container. I just kind of eyeballed the amount of sugar, to be honest. I poured the mixture into the watermelon, filling up the space I’d made. I made sure to leave a little room at the top, though. You don’t want it overflowing.
Next came the waiting game. I put the watermelon in the fridge and just… let it sit. I think I left it in there for about 24 hours, maybe a bit longer. The idea is for the watermelon to soak up all that boozy goodness. This is the most challenging part, the waiting…
The Results
Finally, the moment of truth. I took the watermelon out of the fridge, and it definitely felt heavier. I cut it open, and the inside was all pink and, well, boozy-looking. I scooped some out and took a bite and, wow, it was strong! But also, kind of delicious? It tasted like watermelon, obviously, but with a serious kick. Like, a really serious kick. But I got to say, that is something that I would only have a bit at a time. And I would definitely make sure to drink responsibly.
So, there you have it. My watermelon moonshine experiment. Was it a success? I’d say so! It was definitely an experience, and the end result was pretty interesting. I’ll be honest, this isn’t something I’d do every day, but for a special occasion, or just to try something new, it’s worth a shot. Just remember to be careful and, you know, maybe don’t operate heavy machinery afterward. This is something I’d definitely do again, maybe next summer. It would be perfect for a barbecue or a pool party. But for now, I’m just going to enjoy the rest of this boozy watermelon in moderation. Cheers!
