Okay, so I was trying to make these chocolate chip cookies the other day, right? The recipe called for 3 cups of chocolate chips, but I only had my kitchen scale, which measures in ounces. I was like, “Shoot, how many ounces is 3 cups of chocolate chips?”
First, I grabbed my phone and did a quick search. I saw a bunch of different numbers, and it got me a little confused. Some said 1 cup is 6 ounces, and others said 8. Then I remembered that chocolate chips can be different sizes, which totally makes a difference in how much they weigh.
So, I decided to just do a little experiment. I took out my measuring cups and my scale. I filled one cup with chocolate chips and poured it onto the scale. It showed around 6 ounces. I did this a couple more times, just to be sure, and yep, it was pretty consistent – around 6 ounces per cup.
- Filled 1 cup with chocolate chips.
- Weighed the cup of chocolate chips on my scale.
- Got a reading of around 6 ounces.
- Repeated this a few times to confirm.
Getting to the Total
Now that I knew 1 cup was about 6 ounces, figuring out 3 cups was easy peasy. I just multiplied 6 by 3 and got 18. So, 3 cups of chocolate chips is roughly 18 ounces. I measured out 18 ounces on my scale, dumped them into my cookie dough, and finished making the cookies.
They turned out pretty darn good, if I do say so myself! It’s always good to double-check these things when you’re baking. Next time, I’ll remember that 3 cups of chocolate chips equals about 18 ounces, and maybe you will too after reading my little experiment!
