Okay, so I’ve been meaning to try out some gluten-free recipes lately, and what better way to dive in than with some apple fritters? It’s apple season after all! I decided to make these in my air fryer because, why not? It’s supposed to be healthier, right? And I heard it can make things super crispy.

First things first, I gathered all my ingredients. I didn’t have a specific recipe, but I figured I needed the basics: apples, flour, some spices, and something to make it all stick together. For the flour, I went with a gluten-free blend I found at the store. I also grabbed some cinnamon and nutmeg because, in my opinion, they are essential for anything apple-related. Also, some milk and an egg, I suppose they are necessary for baking.

  • Gluten-free flour blend
  • Apples (I used Honeycrisp because they’re my favorite)
  • Cinnamon
  • Nutmeg
  • Milk
  • Egg
  • Sugar (can’t forget that!)
  • Baking powder (to make ’em fluffy)

I started by peeling and dicing the apples. I probably should have used a better knife because it took me longer than I’d like to admit. Anyway, I mixed the dry ingredients in one bowl – the gluten-free flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and a pinch of nutmeg. In another bowl, I whisked together the milk and egg.

Then, I gradually added the dry ingredients to the wet ones, mixing until it was just combined. I tossed in the diced apples and made sure they were nicely coated with the batter.

Air Frying Time

This is where the air fryer comes in. I preheated it to 350°F (or around 175°C). While it was heating up, I scooped out portions of the batter onto a piece of parchment paper. I made sure they weren’t too big, so they could cook evenly. Then I carefully placed it in the air fryer basket, not the best idea I have but it worked.

I set the timer for about 10 minutes, but I kept an eye on them. After about 8 minutes, I flipped them over to make sure both sides got crispy. They were done after another 6-7 minutes, so about 15 minutes in total.

The Result

They turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself! They were golden brown and crispy on the outside, and the apples inside were soft and sweet. I dusted them with a little powdered sugar for extra sweetness and presentation. They definitely satisfied my apple fritter craving, and being gluten-free was a bonus. Not bad for a first try, right? Next time, I might try making a glaze for them, just to up the game a little. It is a success for me, maybe I will try other recipes in the future.
