Okay, so, I’ve been messing around in the kitchen again, and this time it’s all about marshmallow creme. You know, that fluffy, sweet stuff that’s like a cloud in a jar? Well, I got it into my head to try making some treats using regular marshmallows, ’cause why not? It seemed like a fun little experiment.
First off, I grabbed a bag of those big marshmallows – the ones you’d normally roast over a campfire. I figured they’d be easier to work with. I dumped them into a big bowl and started thinking about how to melt these suckers down into something resembling that creamy goodness you get in stores.
I tried a few things. First, I zapped them in the microwave. I put them in for, like, 30 seconds, then stirred, then another 30, and so on. They started to puff up real big, which was kinda cool, but also a bit messy. It took a few rounds, but eventually, they got all melty and gooey.

- Microwave method: Worked pretty well, but you gotta keep an eye on them. They can go from fluffy to a sticky explosion in seconds.
Next, I thought I’d try the stovetop method. I put some water in a pot and brought it to a simmer. Then, I put the marshmallows in a heatproof bowl and set that over the simmering water, like a makeshift double boiler. This was a bit slower, but it felt more controlled. I just kept stirring until they melted into a smooth, creamy consistency.
- Stovetop method: Slower, but felt safer. Less chance of a marshmallow massacre in my microwave.
Once I had my melted marshmallow goop, the real fun began. I decided to make some simple fruit dip. I mixed in some of the marshmallow creme with some cream cheese and a little vanilla extract. Man, it was good! We dipped in some strawberries, grapes, and even some pineapple chunks. It was a hit with the kids, and honestly, I couldn’t stop eating it either.
- Fruit dip: Super easy and delicious. Just mix melted marshmallows with cream cheese and vanilla.
Then I got a bit more adventurous. I saw this recipe for something called “Cherry Cola Cake” online, and it sounded wild, so I gave it a shot. It involved mixing melted marshmallows with cherry cola and some other cake stuff. It was… interesting. Not my favorite, but definitely a conversation starter.
- Cherry Cola Cake: A bit weird, but hey, experiments are experiments.
My last experiment was these little cracker snacks. I sandwiched some of the melted marshmallow between two crackers and dipped them in melted chocolate. These were actually pretty awesome. They were gone in like five minutes. I probably should have made more, but I was getting tired of making marshmallow goo at this point.
- Cracker Snacks: Melted marshmallows between crackers, dipped in chocolate. Yes, please!
My Final Thoughts
So, yeah, that was my marshmallow adventure. It was messy, it was fun, and I ended up with some pretty tasty treats. It’s definitely easier to just buy the marshmallow creme from the store, but where’s the fun in that? Plus, making it yourself lets you control the ingredients and get all creative with the flavors. Would I do it again? Maybe. If I’ve got a bunch of marshmallows lying around and I’m feeling adventurous. Or if I just really, really want that fruit dip again. It was seriously good.
