Today, I wanted to make some biscuits, but not the fancy kind that takes forever. I was craving those simple, no-fuss drop biscuits. I did a quick search online and found out that you only need a few things to make them, which was perfect!
First, I grabbed a big bowl from the cupboard. Then, I measured out the self-rising flour. I love using self-rising flour because it already has the baking powder and salt mixed in. One less step, you know?
Next, I took some cold butter out of the fridge. It’s gotta be cold, otherwise the biscuits won’t be as fluffy. I cut the butter into small pieces and tossed them into the bowl with the flour.

Then, using my hands, I started mixing the butter and flour together. The goal is to get these little crumbles, kind of like coarse breadcrumbs. Some people use a pastry cutter, but I think using your hands is more fun. You just rub the butter into the flour until it looks right.
Once the butter and flour were all mixed up, I slowly poured in some milk. I stirred everything together with a big spoon until it formed a soft, sticky dough. You don’t want to overmix it, just enough so everything is combined.
I preheated my oven to a pretty high temperature, the recipe I found said about 450 degrees Fahrenheit. While that was heating up, I got a baking sheet and lined it with some parchment paper. This is optional, but it makes cleanup so much easier!
Then, I used a spoon to drop big dollops of the dough onto the baking sheet. I made sure to leave a little space between each one, so they could spread out while baking.
Finally, I popped the baking sheet into the oven and baked the biscuits for around 12-15 minutes. They turned a nice golden brown and smelled amazing. They were crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside.
- Self-rising flour
- Cold butter
- Milk
These drop biscuits were so easy to make, and they tasted so good! I slathered some butter and jam on them, and they were the perfect afternoon snack. I’ll definitely be making these again. Maybe next time I’ll add some cheese or herbs to the dough. It is really a nice try!
