Okay, so I tried out this meatloaf recipe today, and let me tell you, it was a bit of an adventure. I’ve always been a fan of meatloaf, but this time I wanted to try something a little different, so I went with a recipe that included BBQ sauce and brown sugar. Sounds interesting, right?
Getting Started
First off, I gathered all my ingredients. I’m talking about the usual suspects like ground beef – I used about 2 pounds of it. Then there’s the “panade,” which is basically bread soaked in milk. I used regular white bread and whole milk for this. You gotta have some eggs in there, too, to bind everything together. I cracked in two large ones.
Mixing It Up
I got a big bowl and started by mixing the ground beef, the soaked bread, and the eggs. Got my hands dirty, of course – that’s the best way to do it! Then, I threw in some diced onions and garlic, because why not? A little seasoning never hurts, so I added salt, pepper, and some Italian herbs for that extra kick.

Here’s where it got interesting. I added about half a cup of BBQ sauce into the mix. I used a store-bought one, the sweet and smoky kind. Then, I sprinkled in a couple of tablespoons of brown sugar. I was a bit skeptical about the sugar, but I thought, “What the heck, let’s see how this turns out.”
Shaping and Baking
After mixing everything thoroughly, I shaped the mixture into a loaf. I put it in a baking dish, just a regular one, nothing fancy. Then, I popped it into the oven, which I had preheated to 350F. I read somewhere that it usually takes about an hour for a 2-pound meatloaf, so I set my timer accordingly.
After 35 minutes, I took it out and basted the top with more of that BBQ sauce. I also sprinkled a bit more brown sugar on top for that caramelized glaze. Then I put it back into the oven for another 25 minutes or so.
The Final Result
So, after about an hour, I took the meatloaf out of the oven. It looked pretty good, if I do say so myself. The top was all glazed and shiny from the BBQ sauce and brown sugar. I let it rest for a few minutes before slicing into it.
The taste? Well, it was definitely different from what I’m used to. The BBQ sauce added a nice smoky flavor, and the brown sugar gave it a hint of sweetness. It was a bit on the sweeter side, which I wasn’t sure about at first, but it kind of grew on me. I served it with some mashed potatoes and green beans, and it was a pretty satisfying meal overall.
Would I make it again? Maybe. It’s not your traditional meatloaf, that’s for sure. But it’s a fun twist if you’re looking to try something new. Just be prepared for that sweet and smoky flavor combo. It’s a bit of a wild ride!
And that’s it for my meatloaf adventure. It was a bit messy, a little unexpected, but definitely worth a try. I love sharing these little kitchen experiments, hope you guys enjoy reading about them!
