Okay, so I’ve been seeing this Buffalo Wild Wings Chipotle BBQ rub all over the place, and I’m a sucker for anything chipotle. Plus, I love making my own spice blends, so I figured I had to give it a shot. Here’s how it went down.
Gathering the Goods
First things first, I needed to round up all the ingredients. I already had some of this stuff in my pantry, but I had to make a quick grocery run for the rest. Here’s what I grabbed:
- Chipotle powder – This is the star of the show, obviously.
- Smoked paprika – Gotta have that smoky flavor.
- Brown sugar – For a little sweetness to balance out the heat.
- Garlic powder – Because garlic makes everything better.
- Onion powder – Same reason as the garlic powder.
- Salt – Duh.
- Black pepper – A classic for a reason.
- Cumin – Adds a nice earthy flavor.
- Cayenne pepper – For an extra kick. I like things spicy!
Mixing It Up
Once I had everything, it was time to mix it all together. I just threw everything into a bowl and gave it a good whisk. Super simple. I made sure to break up any clumps of brown sugar so it would be nice and even.
The Taste Test
Of course, I couldn’t resist trying it out right away. I sprinkled some of the rub on some chicken wings and tossed them in the oven. While they were baking, I mixed up a little extra rub with some olive oil to make a quick marinade for some veggies. I roasted those alongside the wings, and let me tell you, the smell in my kitchen was amazing.
The Verdict
Okay, so the wings and veggies came out of the oven, and it was time for the moment of truth. I took a bite of a wing, and oh boy, it was good. The rub was smoky, spicy, and just a little bit sweet. It was definitely reminiscent of the Buffalo Wild Wings version, but I think I might even like mine better. The roasted veggies were also delicious. The marinade gave them a nice smoky flavor, and they were perfectly tender.
Storing the Goods
I made a pretty big batch of this rub, so I needed to find a way to store it. I just poured it into an airtight container and popped it in my pantry. It should last for a few months, but I doubt it’ll be around that long. I’m already planning on using it on ribs, chicken breasts, and maybe even some tofu. The possibilities are endless!
All in all, I’m super happy with how this Buffalo Wild Wings Chipotle BBQ rub turned out. It was easy to make, tasted great, and it’s going to be a staple in my kitchen from now on. If you’re a fan of smoky, spicy flavors, you gotta try this one out!
