Okay, folks, let’s dive into this onion rice recipe I whipped up the other day. It’s super simple, and honestly, I was just messing around in the kitchen, but it turned out pretty darn good!
First, I grabbed a couple of onions. You know, the regular yellow ones. I think I had about two medium-sized ones.
Then I chopped them up. Not too fine, not too chunky, just… you know… chopped. I’m not a chef, so I don’t get fancy with my knife skills.

Next, I heated up some oil in a pan. Just a regular pan, nothing special. I used olive oil, but you could probably use whatever you have.
Once the oil was hot, I threw the onions in. I let them cook for a bit, stirring occasionally, until they got all soft and golden brown. This took a while, maybe 15-20 minutes? I wasn’t really timing it.
Cooking the Rice
While the onions were cooking, I started on the rice. Plain white rice, nothing fancy. I usually just use a rice cooker, because, let’s be honest, it’s easier.
- Measure Rice
- Wash the Rice
- Put water in the Rice Cooker
Once the rice was cooked and the onions were all caramelized and delicious, I mixed them together. I just dumped the onions into the rice cooker and gave it a good stir.
And that’s it! Seriously, that’s the whole recipe. I added a little salt and pepper to taste, but you could add other spices if you wanted. I was thinking maybe some garlic powder next time, or even some chili flakes for a little kick.
It’s a super simple side dish, and it goes great with pretty much anything. I had it with some grilled chicken, and it was awesome. Give it a try, and let me know what you think!
