Okay, so, I’ve been messing around in the kitchen again, this time with Aidells chicken and apple sausage. You know, that sausage that’s got the sweet and savory thing going on? Yeah, that one. I gotta say, it’s pretty darn versatile.
First off, I just sliced up some of that sausage and fried it in a pan. You know, get it a little crispy on the outside. While that was happening, I chopped up some onions and bell peppers – went with red and green, just for some color. Once the sausage was looking good, I tossed in the veggies and cooked ’em all together until the veggies got soft.
Then, I got this idea. What if I made it into a one-pot kind of deal? So I dumped in some pasta – I used rotini ’cause that’s what I had, but you could use whatever – and some chicken broth. Brought that whole thing to a boil, then simmered it until the pasta was cooked through.

- Aidells chicken and apple sausage, sliced
- Onion, chopped
- Red bell pepper, chopped
- Green bell pepper, chopped
- Rotini pasta
- Chicken broth
The cheesy goodness!
Now, here’s where it got real good. I stirred in a bunch of shredded cheese – cheddar and Monterey Jack, because why not? – and let it all melt together into this gooey, cheesy deliciousness. Seasoned it with a little salt, pepper, and a pinch of garlic powder, just to round out the flavors.
Honestly, the whole thing was super easy and came together in like, 30 minutes. The sweetness of the apple in the sausage really balanced out the savory cheese and veggies. It was a total crowd-pleaser, too. Even my picky eater kid went back for seconds!
I’ve also been thinking about other ways to use this sausage. Maybe grill it up with some pineapple for a sweet and smoky flavor? Or chop it up and add it to a frittata? The possibilities are kind of endless, really. I feel like I’m gonna have fun experimenting with this some more. It’s definitely a keeper in my recipe book! Also, I heard someone tried to combine it with fried rice. I’m not a huge fan of fried rice but I will definitely give it a shot!
