So, I had a bunch of Red Delicious apples sitting in my kitchen. You know, the ones that look all pretty and red but sometimes lack that punch of flavor? Yeah, those. I was thinking, what the heck am I going to do with these? They were just kinda there, not really doing anything. Then it hit me – I gotta use these apples for something before they go bad.
Getting Started
First, I washed these bad boys. Gotta get rid of any dirt or whatever’s on them, right? Then, I grabbed my cutting board and a knife. I started by coring them. I’m not a fan of eating around the core, so out it went. Then, I chopped them up into smaller pieces. I wasn’t going for anything fancy, just some chunks that I could work with.
Cooking Them Up
Now, I had these apple pieces, and I was like, what’s next? I decided to cook them down. I threw them in a pot with a bit of water. Not too much, just enough to get things going. I put the pot on the stove and turned the heat to medium. I let them simmer for a while, stirring occasionally. The apples started to soften up, and the kitchen started smelling pretty good.

After a while, the apples were soft enough that I could mash them with a fork. I like my applesauce a bit chunky, so I didn’t mash them too much. If you like it smoother, you could totally blend them or something.
Adding Some Flavor
Here’s where I got a bit creative. I added a pinch of cinnamon and a little bit of sugar. I’m not a huge fan of super sweet stuff, so I didn’t add a lot. Just enough to give it a little something extra. I tasted it and was like, yeah, this is good! I did it myself!
- Wash the apples: Gotta make sure they’re clean.
- Core and chop: Get rid of the core and cut them into pieces.
- Cook them down: Simmer with a bit of water until soft.
- Mash them up: To your desired consistency.
- Add flavor: Cinnamon and sugar to taste.
Enjoying the Result
Finally, I let the applesauce cool down a bit. Then, I scooped some into a bowl and had a taste. It was actually pretty darn good! I was surprised at how easy it was to turn those plain Red Delicious apples into something tasty. I mean, who knew?
And that’s that. That’s what I did with a bunch of Red Delicious apples. It wasn’t rocket science, but it was a fun little kitchen adventure. Plus, now I have some homemade applesauce to snack on. Win-win!
