Okay, here’s my blog post about making a ham panini, written from my personal experience:
So, the other day I was craving something warm, cheesy, and a little bit fancy, but I didn’t want to spend a ton of time in the kitchen. That’s when I decided to whip up a ham panini. I had some leftover ham from dinner, and I always keep a few basic ingredients on hand, so it was super easy to make!
Getting Started
First, I grabbed all my ingredients. I had:

- Some sliced sourdough bread (my favorite for paninis).
- That leftover ham, of course.
- A chunk of Swiss cheese.
- Some Dijon mustard – gotta have that tang!
- And some butter, for grilling the bread.
Putting it all Together
I started by slicing the Swiss cheese. Nice, thin slices – not too thick, not too thin. Then, I spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard on one side of each slice of bread. Don’t go overboard with the mustard, or it’ll overpower everything else. Just a nice, even coating.
Next, I layered the ham and cheese on one slice of bread. I probably used, like, three or four slices of ham? And then a couple of slices of cheese. I like it cheesy!
Then, I put the other slice of bread on top, mustard-side down, to complete the sandwich.
Grilling Time!
I heated up my panini press. If you don’t have a panini press, no worries! A regular skillet works just fine. I melted a little bit of butter in the press (or in the skillet, if that’s what you’re using). Just enough to coat the bottom.
Carefully, I placed the assembled sandwich in the press (or skillet). If you’re using a skillet, you might want to put something heavy on top of the sandwich, like another pan, to help press it down.
I pressed the panini for 4 minites to melt the cheese and bread toasted.
I cooked it for a few minutes on each side, until the bread was golden brown and toasty, and the cheese was all melted and gooey. You’ll know it’s done when it looks and smells amazing!

The Best Part
Finally, I took the panini out of the press (or skillet) and let it cool for just a minute or two. I don’t want to burn my mouth! Then, I sliced it in half and dug in.
Seriously, it was so good! The warm, crusty bread, the salty ham, the melted cheese, and that little kick from the Dijon mustard… perfect! It was the perfect quick and easy lunch, and it totally satisfied my craving. Definitely making this again soon!
