Okay, here’s my take on making a Mixed Berry Dump Cake with frozen berries, shared in a casual, blog-post style:
Alright, so I’ve been seeing these “dump cake” recipes floating around, and they looked ridiculously easy. I’m all about simple desserts, especially when I’m feeling lazy. Plus, I had a big bag of frozen mixed berries taking up space in my freezer, so I thought, “Why not?”
First, I grabbed a baking dish. I think mine was a 9×13 inch. I didn’t grease it or anything, because honestly, I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to. It turned out fine, though!

Then, I just dumped the frozen berries straight into the dish. No thawing, no nothing. I spread them out a bit so they were in a mostly even layer.
Next, I sprinkled a box of yellow cake mix evenly over the top of the berries. Don’t mix it in, just leave it sitting on top like a dry, powdery blanket. Sounds weird, I know, but trust me.
The Butter Situation
- Some recipes called for melted butter, others for sliced butter.
- I sliced the butter.
I placed the butter slices all over the top of the cake mix. I used about a stick and a half, maybe a bit more, because… well, butter.
Then, the whole thing went into the oven. I baked it at 350°F (175°C). My oven is a bit temperamental, and after about 40min I checked it and it was perfect!
I let it cool for a little bit, because hot fruit is basically lava. Then, I scooped out a big portion and topped it with some vanilla ice cream. It was warm, gooey, and surprisingly delicious for something that took practically zero effort.
Seriously, the hardest part was slicing the butter. If you’re looking for a super easy, crowd-pleasing dessert, this is it. Give it a try, and let me know how it turns out!
