Okay, so the other day I was craving those sausage balls, you know, the ones you get at parties? But I didn’t have any Bisquick. All I had was regular pancake mix, and I was like, “Can I even do this?” I mean, they’re both basically flour, right? So, I decided to just go for it.
My Sausage Ball Experiment
First, I grabbed a pound of sausage. Just the regular breakfast kind, nothing fancy. I threw that in a big bowl.
Then, I measured out about three cups of the pancake mix. Honestly, I kinda just eyeballed it. I also added in a bunch of shredded cheddar cheese. Because, cheese makes everything better, obviously.

Next, I dumped in a little bit of milk. I didn’t want the mixture to be too dry, you know? Just enough to make everything stick together. I started with maybe a quarter cup and added a splash more later.
Now came the fun part – getting my hands dirty! I mixed everything together with my hands. It was kinda messy, but that’s part of the fun, right? I made sure the sausage, pancake mix, and cheese were all mixed up really well.
- Forming the Balls
After that, I rolled the mixture into little balls. I made them about, eh, an inch or so? Didn’t really measure, just went by feel. I placed them on a baking sheet. I didn’t even grease it, to be honest, and it turned out fine.
- Baking Time
I popped them in the oven, which I had already preheated to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. I think I baked them for like 20 to 25 minutes. I just kept an eye on them until they were all golden brown and looked cooked through.
I took out and let them cool for few minutes before serve to my friend.
The Result
And guess what? They were actually pretty good! Seriously, they tasted almost the same as the ones made with Bisquick. Maybe a little sweeter, but in a good way. The pancake mix made them a bit fluffier, too. I was pleasantly surprised! So yeah, you can totally make sausage balls with pancake mix. Don’t be afraid to experiment in the kitchen, people!
