Today, I tried a super simple recipe using Lipton onion soup mix and ground beef. It was a busy day, and I needed something quick and tasty, so I went for it.
I started by taking out a pound of ground beef from the fridge. I put it in a large bowl, you know, the one I use for almost everything.
- First, I grabbed a packet of that Lipton onion soup mix, the dry one.
- Then, I dumped the whole thing right into the bowl with the ground beef.
- I used my hands to mix it all up, making sure the onion soup mix was evenly spread through the meat. It felt a little weird, but hey, that’s cooking for you.
Making Meatloaf
I decided to make a meatloaf because it’s easy and doesn’t require much babysitting. I added some breadcrumbs to the mix, about a cup, just to give it some body. I also cracked in an egg to help hold everything together. I mixed it again, hands getting all messy, but it’s kind of fun in a way.

After that, I shaped the mixture into a loaf and placed it in a baking dish. My baking dish is this old, reliable one that’s been with me for years. I preheated the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Once it was hot, I popped the meatloaf in and set a timer for about an hour.
Making Something Else
While the meatloaf was baking, I thought, why not make something else with this mix? So, I took some more ground beef, mixed in another packet of the onion soup mix, and this time, I added a can of beans. I used kidney beans because that’s what I had in my pantry. I also threw in some chili powder and cumin, just winging it with the amounts, to be honest.
I cooked this mixture on the stovetop, stirring occasionally. It started to smell really good, like a hearty chili or something. I let it simmer for about 20 minutes, just enough to get the flavors to blend together. I stirred it to make sure all the ingredients are cooked.
In the end, I had two dishes: a simple meatloaf and a hearty, chili-like concoction. Both were pretty good and surprisingly easy to make. The onion soup mix really does add a lot of flavor without much effort. It was a successful experiment, and I’ll probably do it again when I need a quick meal.
That’s about it for my cooking adventure today. It’s not gourmet, but it’s real, and it works for a busy day. Plus, there are leftovers, which is always a bonus!
