Okay, folks, let’s talk about this Crock-Pot blackberry cobbler. I saw this recipe floating around, and, well, I’m a sucker for anything blackberry. Plus, using a cake mix? Sounded easy enough, even for a kitchen klutz like me.
So, first, I greased my slow cooker. Don’t skip this step, or you’ll be sorry. I just used some cooking spray, nothing fancy.
Next, I dumped in the blackberries. Now, the recipe I found used fresh, but I only had frozen on hand. Figured it wouldn’t make that much difference, right? I used about two big bags, maybe 6 cups total. I like it fruity.

Then, I sprinkled a box of yellow cake mix right over the top of the berries. Didn’t bother mixing it in or anything, just straight out of the box. I used a standard-size box, whatever that is, maybe 15 ounces?
After that, I sliced up a stick of butter – yes, a whole stick – and scattered the pieces over the cake mix. This part felt a little… decadent, but hey, it’s cobbler.
The Waiting Game
- Covered the Crock-Pot.
- Set it to low.
- Walked away.
The recipe said 4-6 hours, so I went about my day. Did some laundry, watched some TV, the usual. The house started smelling pretty amazing after a couple of hours, all buttery and fruity. It smelled really good.
I checked it around the 4-hour mark, and it looked… soupy. The cake mix on top was still pretty pale, not at all golden brown like the pictures I’d seen. So, I gave it another hour. Still not quite there. Finally, after about 6 hours total, the edges were starting to look a little more done, so I called it good.
I scooped some into a bowl and added a dollop of vanilla ice cream because, why not? And you know what? It was pretty darn good! The blackberries were sweet and tart, the cake part was soft and gooey, and the ice cream just melted right into it.
Was it the prettiest dessert I’ve ever made? Nope. Did it taste amazing? Absolutely. And the best part? It was ridiculously easy. So, if you’re looking for a simple, comforting dessert that requires minimal effort, this Crock-Pot blackberry cobbler is definitely worth a try.
