Okay, so, I bought a big, juicy pineapple the other day, and like always, I got a little carried away and cut up the whole thing. Now I’m wondering, how long will all this cut pineapple last in the fridge? I did some digging and figured I’d share my little experiment and what I found out.

First off, I washed the pineapple thoroughly. This, I think, is important to get rid of any surface bacteria or dirt. After that, I chopped it up into chunks. Some people prefer spears or rings, but chunks are easier to store and snack on, at least for me.

Once it was all cut up, I grabbed a couple of airtight containers. I’ve heard that’s the key to keeping cut fruit fresh. I divided the pineapple chunks between the containers, making sure not to pack them too tightly. You want a little bit of air in there, I guess.

Then, into the fridge they went. I placed them on the middle shelf, where the temperature is usually the most consistent. I’ve learned that from experience too – the door and the very back can have temperature fluctuations.

Now, the waiting game. I checked on the pineapple every day. On day one and two, it looked and tasted great, just as fresh as when I cut it. By day three, it was still good, maybe a tiny bit softer.

  • Day 1: Fresh and delicious!
  • Day 2: Still perfect.
  • Day 3: A little softer, but still tasty.
  • Day 4: It started to get a bit mushy and the taste was slightly off.
  • Day 5: Yeah, it’s not so good anymore, time to throw out.

My conclusion

So, based on my little experiment, I’d say cut pineapple lasts about 3-4 days in the fridge if you store it properly. By day four, it started to lose its texture and the flavor was definitely changing, not in a good way. I wouldn’t push it past day five, just to be safe. Better safe than sorry, you know? But hey, 3 days is still pretty good. It gives you plenty of time to enjoy your pineapple without rushing. Oh, and one more thing, if you need it last longer, you can freeze it.
