Okay, so I’ve been seeing these gorgeous Fuji apples at the grocery store, and I finally caved and bought a bunch. I wanted to do something more than just eat them straight up, so I decided to try and find a good recipe. Let’s see what I came up with!

My Fuji Apple Experiment

First things first, I washed all the apples really well. Gotta get rid of any of that waxy stuff, you know?

Then, I spent some time looking for recipe. And then I choose a simple one, apple crisp! It sounded easy enough, and I figured I could handle it. It is my first time to cook dessert.

I grabbed a couple of bowls and started peeling and slicing the apples. Man, my hands got sticky! I cut them into, like, half-inch slices, trying to make them all roughly the same size. No real reason, just seemed like the right thing to do.

Next, I mixed the apple slices with some cinnamon, a little bit of sugar, and a squeeze of lemon juice in one of the bowls. Just tossed it all together until everything was nicely coated.

  • Apples – peeled, cored, and sliced
  • Cinnamon – just a sprinkle!
  • Sugar – not too much, the apples are already sweet
  • Lemon juice – a tiny squirt

For the topping, I used another bowl to combine some flour, more sugar, a pinch of salt, and some cold butter that I cut into little pieces. I used my fingers to smush it all together until it looked like coarse crumbs. Kinda messy, but fun!

I greased a baking dish with some butter – gotta make sure nothing sticks! – and then poured in the apple mixture. I spread it out evenly, then sprinkled the crumb topping all over the top.

Finally, I popped the whole thing into the oven. I think I baked it at 375 degrees for about, oh, 40 minutes? I just kept an eye on it until the topping was golden brown and the apples were bubbly.

It smelled AMAZING while it was baking! Seriously, my whole kitchen smelled like warm apples and cinnamon. Made me so hungry.

When it was done, I took it out of the oven and let it cool for a bit. I mean, I burned my tongue a little because I couldn’t wait, but it was worth it! It was so good – warm, sweet, and just the right amount of tartness. Definitely making this again!
