Okay, guys, so today I tried making that viral chocolate mug cake, the one that uses hot chocolate mix. Here’s how it all went down:
My Mug Cake Mission
I started by grabbing all the stuff I needed. I’m a pretty simple baker, I don’t keep a ton of fancy ingredients around.
- Hot chocolate mix – I used the Swiss Miss kind, because, you know, it’s what I had.
- Flour – Just regular all-purpose.
- Sugar – I used white, granulated.
- Baking powder – I used double-acting baking powder.
- Salt – Just a tiny pinch!
- Milk – I had 2% on hand.
- Vegetable oil -Nothing fancy.
- Vanilla extract – I love that stuff.
Mixing It Up
First, I grabbed a large mug, I used a microwave-safe one of course. I dumped in the dry ingredients: that hot chocolate mix, flour, a little bit of sugar(because I thought that hot chocolate mix alone is not enough for a cake), baking powder, and a tiny pinch of salt. I gave those a good whisk with a fork, just to get everything nicely mixed up.

Then, it was time for the wet ingredients. I poured in the milk, some oil, and a splash of vanilla. I mixed everything together with the fork again, I stirred and stirred until there were no more big lumps. It looked like, well, chocolate batter!
The Microwave Magic
I stuck the mug in my microwave. Because every microwave is different, I decided to start with one minute. After one minute, I poked it with a toothpick – still gooey. So I zapped it for another 30 seconds. I checked again, and It looked pretty good, maybe still a bit wet in the center, so it’s another 15 seconds for it. When the toothpick came out mostly clean, I figured it was done.
The Taste Test
I let it cool for a couple of minutes because, that thing was Hot. Then, I took a big spoonful. It was warm, chocolatey, and surprisingly fluffy, And I just used hot chocolate mix. It was a great treat for me.
