Duncan Hines Pound Cake from Yellow Cake Mix, A Deliciously Simple Dessert Idea

Okay, so the other day I wanted to make a pound cake, but I was feeling kinda lazy. I had a box of Duncan Hines yellow cake mix in the pantry, and I remembered seeing somewhere that you could use it to make a pound cake. Figured I’d give it a shot, because why not, right?

So, I grabbed that Duncan Hines cake mix, and then I also got myself a box of vanilla instant pudding mix. I dumped the cake mix into a big bowl, then I tossed in the pudding mix too. After that, I cracked four large eggs into the bowl. It was getting pretty full at this point!

Next up, I poured in a cup of water and about a third of a cup of vegetable oil. Then came the fun part – mixing everything together. I used my electric mixer and beat it all up until it was nice and smooth, no lumps or anything. It looked pretty good, I gotta say.

I preheated my oven to 350 degrees F, like you do for most cakes. While that was heating up, I greased and floured a loaf pan. I poured the batter into the pan, and it filled it up just right.

  • Mix cake mix, pudding mix, eggs, water, and oil.
  • Beat until smooth.
  • Preheat oven to 350F.
  • Grease and flour a loaf pan.
  • Pour batter into the pan.

I popped the pan into the oven and set a timer for about an hour. I checked it with a toothpick a couple of times, and it came out clean after around 55 minutes. So, I pulled it out of the oven and let it cool in the pan for a bit, maybe 10-15 minutes.

Then, I flipped it onto a wire rack to cool completely. It looked golden brown and smelled amazing. I couldn’t wait to try it! Once it was cool, I sliced it up. And let me tell you, it was pretty darn good! It was moist and dense, like a pound cake should be, and it had a nice vanilla flavor. It was easy, and it tasted better than I expected.

The family loved it too, we ended up eating it with some strawberries and whipped cream on top. So, yeah, using a Duncan Hines yellow cake mix to make a pound cake? Definitely a win in my book! It is the best cake for active imaginations!
