Okay, so today I decided to dive into the world of “white foods” for cooking. I’ve been seeing all these aesthetically pleasing, minimalist food photos online, and I wanted to give it a shot myself. It’s not something I normally do, I usually love vibrant colors in my meals, but hey, gotta try new things, right?
Getting Started
First, I brainstormed all the white foods I could think of. Here’s what I came up with:
- Cauliflower
- Potatoes
- White rice
- Chicken breast
- White fish (like cod)
- Onions
- Garlic
- Yogurt
- White cheese (like mozzarella or feta)
- Milk
- Eggs(the white part)
I picked a few of my favorite, because I don’t want to cook all of that.

The Cooking Process
I decided to make a simple creamy cauliflower soup and some pan-seared cod with mashed potatoes. Sounds pretty white, huh?
For the soup, I first chopped up the cauliflower and an onion. Then, I sautéed the onion in a pot with a little bit of butter until it was soft. I added the cauliflower and some vegetable broth (I know, not perfectly white, but it’s mostly clear!), and let it simmer until the cauliflower was tender. Once it was cooked, I used my immersion blender to puree everything until it was super smooth and creamy. A little salt and pepper, and that was it!
The fish was even easier. I patted the cod fillets dry, seasoned them with salt, pepper, and a tiny bit of garlic powder. Then, I heated up some oil in a pan and seared the fish for a few minutes on each side until it was cooked through and flaky. Mashed potatoes? Boil potatoes, mash them with butter and milk, done. Boring but simple!
The Final Result (and Taste Test!)
Okay, so plating was a bit tricky. Everything was…well, white. I tried to add a little visual interest by sprinkling some chopped chives (again, not perfectly white, but close enough!) on top of the soup and a bit on the mashed potatoes. And a lemon, just a little yellow for it.
Honestly, it looked pretty good! Very minimalist and clean. Taste-wise? It was actually delicious! The cauliflower soup was surprisingly flavorful, and the cod was perfectly cooked. The mashed potatoes were, well, mashed potatoes. Comfort food, can’t go wrong.
So, my white food experiment was a success! It was fun to try something different, and it definitely made me appreciate the simplicity of these ingredients. Would I do it again? Maybe! It’s not my everyday style, but it’s good to have in my culinary repertoire. I hope this blog can help someone!
