Okay, so I finally caved and decided to try making tri-tip in my air fryer. I’ve always been a bit intimidated by tri-tip – it’s a bigger cut of meat, and I didn’t want to mess it up. But I’d heard so many good things about air frying it, so I figured, why not?
First things first, I grabbed a nice-looking tri-tip from the grocery store. It was about 2.5 pounds, which seemed like a good size. I patted it dry with some paper towels – this is important for getting a good sear.
Next up, the seasoning. I kept it pretty simple: salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. I rubbed that all over the tri-tip, making sure to get every nook and cranny.

Time to Air Fry!
I preheated my air fryer to 400°F. Once it was hot, I placed the tri-tip inside. Now, here’s where things get a little tricky. Cooking time really depends on the size of your tri-tip and how well-done you like it.
I started by cooking it for about 10 minutes on one side, then I flipped it and cooked it for another 10 minutes. After that, I started checking the internal temperature with a meat thermometer. I was aiming for medium-rare, which is around 135°F.
- It took about another 5-7 minutes to reach that temperature.
Once it hit 135°F, I took the tri-tip out of the air fryer and let it rest on a cutting board for about 10 minutes. This is super important – it allows the juices to redistribute, resulting in a more tender and flavorful steak. Don’t skip this step!
Finally, I sliced the tri-tip against the grain. And let me tell you, it was amazing! The outside was nice and crispy, and the inside was perfectly cooked – juicy and tender. I was seriously impressed with how well it turned out.
So, if you’re on the fence about trying tri-tip in your air fryer, I say go for it! It’s way easier than I thought, and the results are fantastic. Just remember to season it well, keep an eye on the internal temperature, and let it rest before slicing. You won’t be disappointed!
