Okay, so the other day I was craving something savory but kinda sweet, and I remembered seeing this “jammy eggs” thing all over the internet. I figured, why not give it a shot? Here’s how it went down.

Getting Started

First, I gathered my stuff. Obviously, I needed eggs. I grabbed six from the fridge. I also needed some olive oil, soy sauce (the good stuff!), and a little bit of honey. Oh, and some chili flakes because I like a little kick.

The Cooking Process

  • I put a pot of water on the stove and brought it to a boil. Not a rolling boil, just a nice, gentle simmer.
  • Then I gently lowered the eggs into the water with a spoon. I set a timer for exactly 7 minutes. This is the key, apparently, to get that perfect jammy yolk.
  • While the eggs were doing their thing, I mixed up the “jammy” sauce in a small bowl. A splash of olive oil, a good glug of soy sauce, a tiny drizzle of honey, and a pinch of chili flakes. I whisked it all together.
  • Once the timer buzzed, I scooped the eggs out of the pot and plunged them straight into a bowl of ice water. This stops the cooking and makes them easier to peel.
  • After a few minutes, I peeled the eggs. It was a little tricky, but I got there.
  • Finally, put the eggs to the bowl, I drizzled the eggs with the sauce.I also add some sliced green onions.

The Verdict

Honestly, these were pretty darn good! The yolks were perfectly soft and gooey, and the sauce was the perfect mix of salty, sweet, and spicy. I ate them with some toast, and it was a super satisfying breakfast (or lunch, or snack…whenever!). I’ll definitely be making these again.
