Okay, folks, let’s talk about this “Pumpkin Ooey Gooey Butter Cake Paula Deen” thing I tried. I saw it floating around, and, well, I had to give it a shot. It sounded like the perfect fall treat, and honestly, who can resist anything with “ooey gooey” in the title?
First, I gathered all my ingredients. This is key, people! Don’t start baking until you know you have everything. I’m talking about the pumpkin puree, the cream cheese, the butter (of course, it’s Paula Deen!), the eggs, powdered sugar, cake mix… the whole nine yards.
Then I got down to business. I dumped the cake mix into a big bowl. I used a yellow cake mix, because that’s what I had. I Then, I add eggs, and melted butter.

Mixed it all up until it was, well, mixed. It was pretty thick, like a dough.
Next, I pressed that dough into the bottom of a greased baking pan. I just used my hands, because that’s the easiest way. Made sure it was spread out evenly.
Now for the good stuff – the ooey gooey part! In another bowl, I whipped together the cream cheese, the pumpkin puree, more eggs, and a whole lotta powdered sugar. It smelled amazing, all pumpkin-y and sweet.
I poured that creamy pumpkin mixture over the cake layer in the pan. Spread it out nice and even.
- Prep Work: Get everything out and ready.
- Bottom Layer: Mix the cake mix, melted butter, and eggs. Press into pan.
- Top Layer: Combine cream cheese, pumpkin, eggs, and powdered sugar.
- Assemble: Pour pumpkin mixture over cake layer.
- Bake: Pop it in the oven and wait!
- Sprinkle: with powder sugar.
Here’s a little breakdown of the steps:
Into the oven it went! I baked it at 350 degrees. I think I baked this one around 30-35 minutes, But my oven is a bit of a wild card, so I kept a close eye on it. You want the edges to be golden brown and the center to be mostly set, but still a little jiggly.
Once it was done, I let it cool. This is the hardest part, I swear. You want to dive right in, but it needs to set up properly.
Finally, I dusted the top with a little more powdered sugar, just to make it look pretty. And then… I dug in!
It was GOOD. Like, really good. Super rich, super pumpkin-y, and definitely ooey gooey. It’s not a light dessert, that’s for sure. But it’s perfect for a fall get-together or a special treat. I give it two thumbs up!
