Okay, so, I’ve been trying to put on some weight for a while now. I hit the gym, lift heavy, but the scale just wasn’t budging. A friend of mine suggested I try upping my calorie intake with smoothies. I thought, “Why not?” and dove right in.

I started experimenting with different ingredients. My goal was to make these smoothies as calorie-dense as possible, but also palatable. No point in choking down something disgusting, right?

My First Few Attempts

  • Peanut Butter & Banana: This was a classic. I threw in a couple of scoops of peanut butter, a banana, some milk, and a bit of honey. It was okay, a little too sweet for my liking, but definitely packed a caloric punch.
  • The Green Monster: I tried to get fancy and added spinach, avocado, and protein powder to the mix. It looked like swamp water, and honestly, tasted a bit like it too. Not my best work.
  • Berry Blast: This one was better. Mixed berries, yogurt, milk, and a scoop of protein powder. It was refreshing, but I felt like I needed more calories.

After a few trial-and-error attempts, I started getting the hang of it. I realized that the key was finding a good balance of fats, carbs, and protein. Also figured out that using whole milk and adding things like oats and seeds really helped boost the calorie count.

Hitting the Sweet Spot

I started looking up some recipes online and found some interesting combinations. Some suggested using Ensure or other nutritional supplements, but I wanted to stick to whole foods as much as possible. I did see some ads for these adult formulas by Kate Farms that are apparently free of common allergens, might give those a try later if I get desperate.

Then I stumbled upon this carrot cake smoothie idea. Greek yogurt, almond milk, fresh ginger, cinnamon, and of course, carrots. It sounded bizarre but I gave it a shot. And man, was it good! It didn’t taste exactly like carrot cake, but it was creamy and flavorful. I added some walnuts and a drizzle of maple syrup to really up the calorie game. That was a winner.

Also, I discovered the wonders of kefir. Apparently, it’s packed with probiotics and protein. I found some recipes using Stonyfield organic yogurts and smoothies, and those were pretty tasty too. They were a bit on the pricier side, but seemed like high quality.

The Results

So, after a few weeks of consistently downing these high-calorie smoothies, I finally started seeing some results. The scale started moving in the right direction! It wasn’t a dramatic change, but it was progress. I felt stronger in the gym, and my clothes started fitting a bit tighter. It’s still a work in progress, but I’m definitely feeling more optimistic about reaching my weight goals now. This whole smoothie adventure has been quite the learning experience. It just goes to show that with a little bit of experimentation and persistence, you can find ways to make even a challenging goal like weight gain a bit more manageable and, dare I say, enjoyable!
