Okay, so I’ve been craving some crispy okra lately, but I didn’t want to deal with the whole deep-frying mess. Then I remembered I had a bag of frozen breaded okra in the freezer and my trusty air fryer. Let’s see if I can get that crispy goodness without all the oil!
First, I pulled out the bag of frozen okra from my freezer. It’s important to note that some folks say you should thaw the okra completely before cooking, but I’m living on the edge today, so I decided to try them straight from frozen.
Next, I preheated my air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, which is about 200 degrees Celsius for my friends across the pond. I let it run for about five minutes. I read somewhere that this helps the okra cook evenly and get that nice crispy texture.

While the air fryer was heating up, I grabbed the basket and gave it a good look to make sure it’s clean.
Once the air fryer was preheated, I opened it up and placed the frozen okra into the basket. I tried to arrange them in a single layer, but you know how it is with frozen stuff – it likes to clump together. I did my best, though.
Then, I slid the basket back into the air fryer and set the timer for about 10 minutes. I figured that was a good starting point.
After 10 minutes, I opened it and gave the basket a little shake to make sure the okra was cooking evenly. They were starting to look golden brown, but I wanted them a bit crispier. So, I popped them back in for another 5 minutes.
The Results
- After a total of 15 minutes, the okra was looking pretty good! They were golden brown and had a nice crunch to them.
- I took them out of the air fryer and let them cool for a minute or two. I don’t want to burn my mouth!
- Finally, I dug in. They were crispy, tasty, and not greasy at all. Success!
So, there you have it. You can definitely cook frozen breaded okra in an air fryer, and it turns out pretty darn good. Just remember to preheat your air fryer, and keep an eye on them while they’re cooking, adjusting the time as needed. Enjoy your crispy okra!
