Fresh Cranberry Sauce Recipe Ocean Spray | How to Make It From Scratch

Okay, so I decided to make some cranberry sauce. I’d always just bought the canned stuff, but I figured, why not try it from scratch? It’s the holiday season, after all.

I looked up this “Ocean Spray” recipe since that’s a brand I recognize. It seemed easy enough, only three ingredients: cranberries, sugar, and water. I already had sugar at home, so I just needed to grab a bag of fresh cranberries from the store.

    What I did:

  • First, I rinsed the cranberries. The recipe called for 12 ounces, which is like a whole bag, so that was easy.
  • Then, I got a medium saucepan and put in 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar. I turned the stove to medium heat and stirred that around until all the sugar was dissolved. It looked like simple syrup, you know?
  • Once the sugar was all gone, I dumped in the cranberries and kept stirring.
  • I waited for it to boil, and once it did, I turned the heat down to low. I kept it at a simmer for like 10 minutes. You’ll see the cranberries start to pop and get all mushy, which is what you want.
  • After that, I took the pan off the heat and let it cool down. The sauce thickened up nicely as it cooled.

Honestly, it was way easier than I thought it would be. The whole kitchen smelled amazing, too. And let me tell you, it tasted so much better than the canned stuff! It had this nice tartness that was balanced out by the sugar. I’m definitely making this again next year, maybe even trying it with some orange zest or something.

Oh and I put the leftovers in a container in the fridge. I heard it can last for almost two weeks, but I doubt it will last that long in my house.
